Iowa Rep. Steve King referred to immigrants as dirt and it barely makes mainstream news. Here’s the recorded exchange between Steve King at a small meeting and supporters in Webster City, Iowa on November 5, 2018. This exchange took place before the ‘official’ meeting began and King was talking about growing jalapeno peppers in his garden:
KING: …I raised a bunch this year, and they don’t have enough bite. I guess I’m going to have to go and get some dirt from Mexico to grow the next batch.
Female audience member: Trust me, it’s already on its way.
[More Audience Laughter]
KING: Well, yeah, there’s plenty of dirt, it’s coming from the West Coast, too. And a lot of other places, besides. This is the most dirt we’ve ever seen.
Only a fool or a liar would not admit he (and his constiuents) are talking about the much-publicized caravan heading toward the Mexican/U.S. border from Honduras.
This is the 4th district of Iowa (formerly 5th) and apparently Steve King represents them well as he just won a 5th term.
